Serving foster children with hope and love to change the future

RFKC Camp games

Beginning today, Sunday June 19, 2011, 50 volunteer counselors and staff will make the trek up Interstate 5 in California to Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC). The annual camp is a week-long experience designed especially for the foster child. There are games, events, special outings, and a two-to-one counselor to camper ratio that make RFKC a unique and incredible experience for each child.

It is ironic that we begin this year’s RFKC, our 17th, on Father’s Day. While many of our volunteers will forgo barbeques, picnics, lunches and parties that usually celebrate Father’s Day, we realize that each of the children we serve may never see their fathers again. This is one of the sad consequences of child abuse and neglect … fatherlessness. RFKC is a direct challenge to the effects of fatherlessness upon each child. RFKC follows the Biblical mandate of James 1:27 to do something about the issue:

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

RFKC 2011 of Kern County marks the 17th year of service to foster children in Kern County. The camp is funded by the community and donors and hosted by Canyon Hills Assembly of God. RFKC of Kern County is part of the National RFKC. RFKC Inc., is a national camping organization that trains, certifies and supports camps in counties across the United States and internationally.

RFKC of Kern County is a community effort that enables children in foster care to experience a week away from the system. At RFKC, children can be children and forget the events of their life back home to find hope and love through God’s servants and new experiences. RFKC would not be possible without the tireless efforts of volunteers, donors, prayer partners and families that allow their loved ones to go and serve.

Special recognition goes out to the Kern County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, the Kern Kiwanis, the Cauoa Family and the other large and small donors that give sacrificially to send children to RFKC.

RFKC will be held at a campground in the Los Padres National Forest. The children will experience the cathedral of the outdoors and share in “everybody’s birthday party”, horseback riding, swimming, games and activities, Bible time, hikes, campfires with smores, and nature walks. It is an incredible experience made possible by a community that gives to send children to camp!
