Friend of Covenant,

The information in this correspondence is critical in nature as lives will be affected through the information shared and acted upon. Covenant Community Services (Covenant) has been serving foster children, foster families and former foster youth for over a decade in Kern County. Our mission “providing hope and love to abused and neglected children” continues to drive our practice and strategy.

In 2011, we will move into a new building … the Headquarters of Hope (HQ of Hope). The HQ of Hope is located at 1700 N. Chester Avenue in Bakersfield, California. This new building will be the future home of Covenant, Covenant Media, Covenant Coffee Roasting and the new Covenant Coffee House! We opened a 90 day escrow on the building on November 2, 2010. To initiate our fundraising efforts we have launched the “It’s not a lot of money to a lot of people” campaign!

It’s not a lot of money to a lot of people!

The goal of the Headquarters (HQ) of Hope Building Project is to completely pay off the new building at 1700 N Chester Ave! We need $100,000.00 for the down payment and the remaining $186,000.00 to complete the purchase. This sounds like a lot of money and it really is but “it is not a lot of money to a lot of people”! Let me unpack that last statement.

“It’s not a lot of money to a lot of people” really means two things. One, $286,000.00 is not a lot of money to some individuals, families, businesses or organizations. There are people who have $286,000.00 that is considered discretionary income. This is a large number to me and most folks I know but in reality it is not a lot of money to a lot of people. We sure would appreciate folks from this category of life for an investment into the lives of the fatherless and the orphan by helping us with the purchase of the Headquarters of Hope.

The second meaning of “It’s not a lot of money to a lot of people” is the thought that $286,000.00 is not a lot of money to a lot of people … meaning many people contributing to the goal of $286,000.00. To help you get your mind around the concept check out the PDF below titled HQ of Hope.

Why the HQ of Hope Campaign?

The purpose of the HQ of Hope campaign is to raise funds for the purchase of the building. The outright building purchase will save Covenant thousands of dollars every month. The funds save, that would be spent on a loan payment, are funds we can use for services, supports and new projects that help fulfill mission.

Covenant is in a position to pay the monthly note for the loan with revenue from services and donor support but we would rather use these funds to expand our reach and service. There are many ideas we can implement to engage foster children, former foster youth and families with hope and love but each idea comes with a price. The debt-free purchase of the building will enable us to “pull the trigger” on the creative ideas for service and enable Covenant to serve more youth, children and families.

How can you be involved?

Here is what we are asking you to do. Get involved. Please get involved by sharing the goals, dreams and plan of the HQ of Hope campaign. You can also be involved in one of the options below:

3. Share – share the HQ of Hope campaign with your friends, co-workers, church and family. Help us get the word out.
4. Direct people to www.hqofhope.com so they can give, pray and keep informed about the goals, dreams and progress.
5. Host an event – host a party, a dinner, lunch or coffee and have our staff come out and share the vision and mission of Covenant.
   1. Our staff can help you design and host an event that will raise awareness and funds to support foster youth in Kern County and around the world.
   2. Event ideas – (bake sales, carwashes, fake poker or sports tournaments with “buy-ins” to enter, auctions/raffles for locally donated items, personal challenges like running 10 miles and having family, friends, and community members sponsor you, donations instead of a birthday/holiday gifts)
6. Purchase Covenant Coffee – every bag of coffee you purchase helps us reach our goal.
   1. Sign up for the coffee club with Covenant Coffee and receive regular shipments monthly – www.covenantcoffee.org
   2. Purchase small bags (1/2 or ¼ pound) of Covenant Coffee for use as Christmas and Holiday gifts. You can do this as an individual, a family or a corporation. We can help with custom labels and blends.

7. Use social media (Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, Stumbleupon, etc.) to share the HQ of Hope message.
